The Orange Tree Cafe/restaurant
Looking for a cozy spot that blends countryside charm with mouth-watering comfort food? Tucked away in Pugh’s Garden Village on Port Road in Wenvoe, The Orange Tree Cafe/restaurant is exactly that kind of place. Whether you're a Cardiff local or just exploring South Wales, this charming cafe has built a loyal following - and it’s easy to see why.
As you step inside, the first thing you’ll notice is the warm ambiance. The interior is a comforting mix of rustic and contemporary, with a fireplace that draws you in like a warm hug. It’s the kind of venue that works for all occasions - solo coffee sessions, brunch dates, or leisurely afternoon teas. With wheelchair-accessible features across parking, entrance, seating, and toilets, the place is genuinely welcoming for everyone.
The real star, though, is the food. Breakfast lovers, rejoice. The Orange Tree is known for a beautifully executed Welsh Breakfast, hearty and satisfying with all the expected classics. For something a little lighter but just as tasty, the Avocado Toast or Eggs Benedict deliver rich flavors without weighing you down. And if you’re leaning more toward a full-on indulgence, go for their English Breakfast - it’s big, bold, and utterly satisfying.
But here’s where the cafe really earns its name - the dessert game is top-tier. You’ll spot options like the Chocolate Orange Cake, Chocolate Fudge Cake, and Toffee and Ginger Cake, each offering a different take on sweet satisfaction. Seasonal options like the Christmas Cake, Mince Pies, and Cherry Bakewell add a festive touch, while the Nutella Blondie and Chocolate Honeycomb Cake have that indulgent twist that keeps you coming back.
Looking for something more creative? Their Korean BBQ Loaded Fries and Duck Flatbread show that The Orange Tree isn’t just about tradition - it’s also about flair. There’s a subtle international influence running through the menu, but it never overshadows the cafe’s homey, familiar vibe.
Drink-wise, the selection is broad. The coffee here isn’t just good - it’s great, which matters when you’re pairing it with rich desserts or enjoying a Chocolate Milkshake on a sunny afternoon in their outdoor seating area. Tea lovers won’t be disappointed either. The tea selection is surprisingly vast, making it a perfect spot for afternoon tea dates. And for those looking for something stronger, yes, they serve alcohol, with options like beer, wine, and spirits neatly complementing the food offerings.
Health-conscious diners will appreciate the vegan and vegetarian dishes on the menu. Plus, if you’re in the mood for just a quick bite, that’s absolutely doable - service is efficient, friendly, and thoughtful, without ever feeling rushed.
Another bonus? The outdoor seating area. On sunny days, it’s a dream - birds chirping, flowers blooming, and a steady flow of excellent coffee and cake. You almost forget you’re just minutes away from the busy streets of Cardiff.
And let’s not overlook the vibe. This isn’t a cafe where you have to whisper or tiptoe around - it’s vibrant and full of life but never chaotic. That’s why it’s popular for breakfast and lunch, especially for those dining solo. You can sit back, enjoy your torte and tea, and just breathe.
So if you're after a spot that offers homemade food, cakes that could rival your nan’s, and a chilled-out atmosphere, The Orange Tree Cafe/restaurant makes for a memorable stop. With a menu that evolves with the seasons and a setting that feels like home - this one’s a local gem through and through.

Lovely cafe located in the garden centre!! Varied choice on the menu. We both enjoyed our choices. Great friendly service today from Brett. Ordered and paid at the table which was good. Thank you
Superb breakfast but not cheap: £13. Freshly cooked, the works: bacon, sausage, egg, beans, black pudding, hash browns, tomato, mushrooms & toast.
Nice set up and comfortable space with a very (of course!) botanical feel. Very friendly staff, nice coffee and good cakery. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Guided seating, so generally a brief wait at entrance to be shown to a table. Orders taken at the table, so have a quick mooch at the cake counter once you've got your seat. New bathroom facilities very clean and spacious.
Nice cafe in Pughs Garden Centre. The Cafe is table service. Food is homemade and reasonably priced. I went mid afternoon on a Saturday and the Cafe was quite busy, but the service was fine. There is a large free car park outside with ample parking. The Cafe has an outdoor seating area as well.
This afternoon I took my mum in law for afternoon tea as a Mother's Day treat. The staff were very welcoming (and cheerful !) which is always a good start isn't it. The restaurant was quite busy but we were straight away shown to our Reserved table. We were slightly early but this wasn't a problem for our waiter who brought us tea and coffee as we waited. Well, when the food came we were salivating as he explained each piece. Wow absolutely delicious . Crisp pastries, chilled to perfection delicacies served beautifully presented. An absolute treat. Doggy bags were provided when requested Definitely worth trying and we will no doubt be returning. Thank you so much for a fabulous afternoon
